Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Medium Bowl
  • Loaf pan (9x5 inches)
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 0.5 cup turkey bacon cooked and crumbled (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your loaf pan lightly with oil or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg to evenly distribute the spices and leavening agents.

Combine Sugars and Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, beat the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Mixtures

  • Slowly add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently with a spatula. Stir until just combined to keep the bread tender.

Add Apples and Turkey Bacon

  • Gently fold in the peeled and diced apples. If using, add the cooked and crumbled turkey bacon now for a sweet-savory twist.

Bake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 55-65 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Prepare Glaze

  • While the bread cools slightly, whisk together powdered sugar and milk in a medium bowl until smooth and pourable.

Glaze and Serve

  • Once the bread is cool enough to handle (about 10-15 minutes), drizzle the glaze over the top. Let it set briefly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best texture and brightness.
  • Peel and dice apples evenly to ensure uniform baking.
  • The oil keeps the bread moist longer than butter.
  • Don’t skip the glaze for the classic apple fritter flavor.
  • Optional turkey bacon adds a subtle smoky, savory contrast.
