Ingredients
  

For the Dough:

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup apple pie filling
  • 1/4 cup turkey bacon cooked and crumbled, optional

For the Caramel Drizzle:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk 3/4 cup milk, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour until it’s manageable.

Roll Out the Dough

  • Lightly flour your surface and rolling pin. Roll the dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle. This will give you enough space to add your delicious filling.

Add the Filling

  • Spread 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter evenly over the rolled dough. Mix 1/2 cup brown sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon and sprinkle this over the butter. Next, evenly distribute 1/2 cup apple pie filling across the dough. For a savory-sweet twist, sprinkle 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled turkey bacon over the filling (this is optional but highly recommended!).

Roll and Slice

  • Starting at the long edge, gently but firmly roll the dough into a tight log. Use a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss to slice the log into 9 equal rolls.

Arrange and Bake

  • Place the rolls in a greased 9x9-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each. Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Prepare the Caramel Drizzle

  • While the rolls bake, combine 1/4 cup unsalted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, whisking constantly. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until smooth and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Drizzle and Serve

  • Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the warm caramel sauce generously over the top. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, spiced goodness!

  • Prepare the rolls through slicing and refrigerate overnight for fresh baking the next day.
