  • 2 cups slightly-salted dry roasted peanuts
  • 2 cups pecan halves or pieces
  • 1 cup oyster crackers

For the Seasoning:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup regular olive oil (see note)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons smoked paprika (see note)
  • 3 to 4 teaspoons hickory liquid smoke (see note)
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon mild chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder

Instructions

Preparation Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice squares cereal, mini salted pretzels, cheese crackers, dry roasted peanuts, pecans, and oyster crackers. Stir gently to ensure everything is evenly mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, hickory liquid smoke, brown sugar, salt, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, and chipotle powder until well combined and smooth.
  • Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients. Gently fold everything together until all the dry ingredients are well coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
  • Bake for about 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to ensure even toasting.
  • Once baked, let it cool completely on the baking sheet before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can prepare the mix up to a week in advance and store it in an airtight container.
  • Use whole grain rice squares for added fiber.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with coconut oil.
