Cuisine American
- 2 slices whole grain bread
- 4 slices turkey bacon
- 1 cup lettuce shredded (romaine or iceberg works well)
- 1 medium tomato sliced
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- salt and pepper to taste
Start by heating a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lay the turkey bacon slices flat in the pan without overlapping. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired crispness. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat.
While the bacon is cooking, toast your whole grain bread slices using a toaster or skillet for a warm, slightly crispy texture.
Wash your lettuce and shred it into bite-sized pieces. Slice the tomato into medium-thick slices to ensure they hold their shape and provide juiciness without making the sandwich too wet.
Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise evenly on one side of each toasted bread slice. On the bottom slice, layer the shredded lettuce first, followed by the tomato slices. Season the tomato lightly with salt and pepper. Next, add the crispy turkey bacon slices on top of the tomato.
Place the second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down, on top of the stacked ingredients. Press gently to keep everything together. Slice the sandwich in half if desired, and serve immediately while the bacon is warm and the bread is crisp.
- Toast the bread to prevent sogginess from tomato juice.
- Shred lettuce to reduce moisture and avoid a soggy sandwich.
- Cook turkey bacon on medium heat to prevent burning.
- Season tomato slices with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
- Store turkey bacon and vegetables separately if preparing ahead to maintain freshness.
