Cooking Instructions

  • Step 1: Sauté the Onions. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until they are softened and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Step 2: Brown the Beef. Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until the beef is fully browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Step 3: Add the Cheese. Once the beef is cooked, sprinkle the American cheese slices over the top. Allow the cheese to melt for a couple of minutes, then stir everything together until the cheese is fully incorporated into the meat mixture.
  • Step 4: Toast the Buns. While the cheese is melting, toast the hoagie buns in a separate pan or under the broiler until they are lightly golden and crispy.
  • Step 5: Assemble the Sandwich. Spread the mayonnaise evenly inside each toasted bun. Fill each bun generously with the beef and cheese mixture. Top with chopped lettuce and slices of tomato, then close the sandwich.
  • Step 6: Serve and Enjoy! Cut the sandwich in half if desired, and serve immediately while it’s warm and cheesy.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize your toppings! Add pickles, jalapeños, or hot sauce for an extra kick.
  • This recipe is perfect for meal prep. You can cook the beef mixture ahead of time and reheat it when you're ready to eat.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese! Cheddar or pepper jack can add a unique flavor twist.
