Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Rubber spatula
  • Grater
  • Serving dish
  • Refrigerator

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 small sweet onion grated
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (low fat is fine)
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 ounces chili sauce
  • 1 can crab meat drained and flaked apart
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature for easy mixing. Grate the sweet onion and set it aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the 12 ounces of cream cheese. Using a rubber spatula, soften the cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy.
  • To the softened cream cheese, mix in the 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, and 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir until all the ingredients are well combined.
  • Add the grated sweet onion to the mixture and combine thoroughly. The onion will add a sweet yet slight crunch to the spread.
  • Gently fold in the drained and flaked crab meat. Be careful not to break up the crab too much; you want to maintain some texture.
  • Incorporate the 6 ounces of chili sauce into the mixture, stirring carefully until everything is evenly distributed.
  • Transfer the crab spread to a serving dish and cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld and the spread to firm up.
  • Before serving, sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top for a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, consider freezing the spread in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months; however, the texture may change slightly upon thawing.
  • Thaw frozen crab spread in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
