DIY: Homemade Velveeta Cheese

Ingredients
  

  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin
  • 6 tablespoons dry milk powder
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 16 ounces mild cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the boiling water. Stir gently until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  • Whisk in the dry milk powder until it's fully incorporated.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, shred the mild cheddar cheese and microwave it in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted cheese into the gelatin and milk mixture. Whisk to blend until fully combined and smooth.
  • Transfer the cheese mixture into a storage container, smoothing the top with a spatula. Allow it to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours or until firm.
  • Once set, your DIY: Homemade Velveeta Cheese is ready to use! Slice, spread, or melt it onto your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • For a lighter version, use low-fat cheddar cheese.
