Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Skillet

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Use a whisk to mix the dry ingredients well until evenly incorporated.
  • Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the vegetable oil and warm water. Begin mixing with a spoon or your hands until the dough starts to come together.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it back into the mixing bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, allowing the dough to rest for about 20-30 minutes.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface again. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and then flatten it slightly.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a circle about ¼ inch thick.
  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, place one rolled-out flatbread onto the skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  • As you cook each flatbread, keep them warm by placing them in a clean kitchen towel or inside a warm oven until ready to serve.

Notes

Make sure to use warm water; it helps the dough come together smoothly. Don't skip the resting time for softer flatbread.
