- 24 ounces tomato sauce or tomato passata sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
- 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon table salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
In a medium saucepan, combine the 24 ounces of tomato sauce, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of white vinegar. Use a whisk to mix them together until fully combined.
Next, add 1 tablespoon of corn syrup and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar to the mixture. Stir well to ensure the sweetness is evenly distributed throughout the sauce.
Now it’s time to add some flavor! Sprinkle in the 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon of ground chipotle pepper, 2 teaspoons of sweet paprika, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, 1 teaspoon of table salt, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Stir the mixture thoroughly to blend all the spices together.
Bring the sauce to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a rich and savory sauce.
After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool for a few minutes. Once cooled, transfer the sauce into a storage jar or an airtight container.
- For the best flavor, let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for at least a few hours or overnight before using.
- You can double or triple the recipe if you’re hosting a taco party!
- Feel free to adjust the spice levels to suit your palate.
- If you have any leftovers, it can also be used as a dipping sauce for your favorite appetizers.
