- 1 cup Warm whole milk about 110°F
- 1/4 cup Honey pure, raw
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp Active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup Unsalted butter melted
- 1 tsp Salt fine
- 4 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour additional, as needed
- 1/4 cup Unsalted butter softened, for brushing on top
In your large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, honey, and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the surface and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Add the melted butter, salt, and 4 cups of all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a sticky dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, kneading until the dough is soft, smooth, and slightly tacky but not sticky.
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles. Divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange the balls close together in your greased baking dish, leaving a little space between for expansion.
Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown on top.
As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, brush them generously with softened butter to add shine and moisture.
- Use whole milk warmed to about 110°F to ensure optimal yeast activation.
- Adjust flour gradually to get a soft, slightly tacky dough without it being sticky.
- Brush the rolls with butter immediately after baking for a glossy, flavorful finish.
