Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Stand Mixer with Dough Hook (optional)
  • Baking Dish or Sheet Pan
  • Kitchen towel or plastic wrap
  • Pastry Brush

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm whole milk about 110°F
  • 1/4 cup Honey pure, raw
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp Salt fine
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour additional, as needed
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter softened, for brushing on top

Instructions

  • In your large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, honey, and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the surface and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add the melted butter, salt, and 4 cups of all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a sticky dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, kneading until the dough is soft, smooth, and slightly tacky but not sticky.
  • Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles. Divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange the balls close together in your greased baking dish, leaving a little space between for expansion.
  • Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, brush them generously with softened butter to add shine and moisture.

Notes

  • Use whole milk warmed to about 110°F to ensure optimal yeast activation.
  • Adjust flour gradually to get a soft, slightly tacky dough without it being sticky.
  • Brush the rolls with butter immediately after baking for a glossy, flavorful finish.
