Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Small Bowl
  • Grater
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Spatula or tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Brussels Sprouts halved
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil extra virgin
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 3 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese freshly grated
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs plain or Italian-style, toasted if desired
  • pinch Salt for seasoning crumbs
  • pinch Black Pepper for seasoning crumbs

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Rinse the Brussels sprouts, trim the ends, and slice them in half. Place them in a large mixing bowl and toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  • Spread the Brussels sprouts cut-side down on a baking sheet in a single layer. Roast for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and tender.
  • While the sprouts roast, combine honey and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on desired spice level. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, mix the freshly grated Parmesan cheese with breadcrumbs. For extra flavor, lightly toast the breadcrumbs in a dry skillet over medium heat before mixing. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Once the Brussels sprouts are roasted, transfer them to an oven-safe dish if needed. Drizzle the hot honey evenly over the sprouts. Sprinkle the Parmesan crumbs generously on top.
  • Place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, watching closely, until the cheese crumbs are melted and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a side dish or snack with the perfect balance of spicy, sweet, crunchy, and savory flavors.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure sprouts roast crispy rather than steam.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for better melting and texture.
  • Watch carefully when broiling the Parmesan crumbs to prevent burning.
  • Leftovers reheat well in a skillet or toaster oven to keep crumbs crispy.
  • For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, substitute Parmesan and breadcrumbs as suggested.
