In a small mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves, then sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, milk, and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the bowl along with 2 cups of bread flour. Mix until it forms a sticky dough.
Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, mixing until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
While the dough is rising, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and a pinch of salt, stirring until fragrant.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into small pieces, about the size of a golf ball. Dip each piece into the garlic butter mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.
Arrange them in a greased baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Cover the arranged dough balls with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, bake the Pull Apart Garlic Bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving. Tear apart the warm, garlicky pieces, and enjoy!
