Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup cold butter cut into cubes (or vegan stick butter)
  • 2 cups all-purpose white flour or whole wheat flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup 1% milk or soy milk for a vegan option

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Step 2: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • Step 3: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture and cut in using a pastry cutter or fork until resembling coarse crumbs.
  • Step 4: Pour in the milk (or soy milk) and stir gently until just combined.
  • Step 5: Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Step 6: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  • Step 7: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Using cold butter is key for flaky layers.
  • All-purpose flour gives a lighter texture; whole wheat adds nutrition.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
