Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon or Dough Scraper
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel
  • Baking sheet or pizza stone

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp active dry yeast or instant yeast This is the key to making your dough rise and achieve that airy texture.
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar Helps to activate the yeast and adds a slight sweetness to the dough.
  • 1.5 cups warm water The warmth activates the yeast—110-115°F for active dry yeast, 120-130°F for instant yeast.
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil Adds richness to the dough and helps achieve a golden crust. Reserve some for brushing.
  • 1.25 tsp salt Enhances the flavor of the dough and controls yeast fermentation.
  • 3.5 cups unbleached all-purpose flour or bread flour The base of your dough; scoop and level for accurate measurement. You may need more for dusting.

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Using a wooden spoon, gradually mix the flour into the liquid until a rough dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1-2 hours.
  • About 30 minutes before you’re ready to bake, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into two equal portions for two medium pizzas or keep it whole for one large pizza. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  • Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings. Brush the crust with a little olive oil for extra flavor and crunch. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly. Slice it up and enjoy your homemade masterpiece with family and friends!

Notes

  • Don’t skip the yeast activation step; it’s crucial for the dough to rise.
  • Avoid using cold water; it will hinder the yeast’s ability to activate.
  • Wrap unbaked dough tightly for storage; it can be refrigerated or frozen.
