Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving glasses or a trifle dish
  • Sifter or fine mesh strainer
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold brew coffee preferably strong and chilled
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar adjust based on sweetness preference
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi) the classic tiramisu choice
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional but highly recommended)

Instructions

Prepare the Cream Mixture

  • In your large mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Use a whisk or electric mixer to blend until smooth and creamy.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Brew and Chill Your Coffee

  • Make sure your cold brew coffee is ready and well chilled. If short on time, brew strong coffee and chill it in the fridge, but cold brew is preferred.

Dip the Ladyfingers

  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cold brew coffee, soaking some liquid but not soggy. Lay dipped ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of your serving glasses or dish.

Layer the Cream

  • Spoon a generous layer of the mascarpone and cream mixture over the ladyfingers. Smooth the surface evenly with a spatula. Repeat dipping and layering until all ladyfingers and cream are used, finishing with cream on top.

Garnish and Chill

  • Dust the top layer with cocoa powder using a sifter for an even coating. Add dark chocolate shavings for elegance and texture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Notes

  • Do not over-soak the ladyfingers to avoid a mushy texture.
  • Whip the cream to soft peaks for the signature lightness.
  • Chill the assembled dessert for at least 4 hours to develop flavors and set texture.
  • Try swapping ladyfingers with coconut macaroons for a chewy twist.
  • Add a splash of coffee liqueur or hazelnut syrup for extra flavor depth.
