  • Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics - Heat olive oil in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add crushed garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  • Step 2: Add the Rice - Stir in the long-grain rice and toast for 2-3 minutes until coated in oil and aromatics.
  • Step 3: Spice It Up - Sprinkle ground turmeric and salt over the rice, stirring well to combine.
  • Step 4: Add Water and Optional Ingredients - Pour enough water to cover the rice by ½ inch and add bay leaves if using.
  • Step 5: Cook the Rice - Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.
  • Step 6: Fluff and Serve - Remove from heat, let sit covered for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs or spices like cumin or coriander. Rinse the rice before cooking to prevent stickiness.
